Marijuana Addiction Fast Facts

Marijuana is one of the widely abused drug anywhere in the world. Its widespread abuse and use has spawned a lot of legislations authorizing the legalization of marijuana for medical use, and the decriminalisation of possessing minimal amounts of the drug. As a matter of fact, marijuana is one of the mostly used drug wherever you go, with its avid users growing by the millions each year. Hence, marijuana addiction is a widespread form of addiction to date.

A brand new research even stated that marijuana use has surpassed tobacco use by teenagers. Marijuana use has been made popular on TV and by the media that there is an overall perception that it is harmless. But, few of them are denying the fact that marijuana is in fact addicting just like any drug and it poses serious health risks associated with its abuse.

For those who thought they may not be addicted to marijuana, you are 100% wrong. The proof to backup this claim is scientific in nature since a lot of the critical areas of the brain all have receptors that are cannabinol that bind with the active ingredient in marijuana called the THC or the Tetrahydrocannabinol. As a person makes use of marijuana, the release of dopamine is regarded as pleasurable and brings the brain some pleasant stimulation. It activated an area in the brain that results to the state of ‘high.’ Lastly, it means that the associations are established on the neurological paths on the brain which perform nothing but server the after effects of the drugs. Later on, the paths will left the marijuana user overwhelmed with some urges that moves them to use more, and more; and the marijuana addiction deepens.

The main issue with marijuana and its addiction is that more and more people fail to notice it or due to the own addiction, they are unable to take due notice of it. It can be a real risk to health as over time smoking the drug can cause dangers to ones physical and mental health effects. Furthermore, being addicted to the substance can make the person gullible to becoming addicted to a much higher and complex substance.

Due to the very nature of marijuana addiction, it may be impossible for a user to quit using the drug. This is due to all of the familiar links to marijuana, like places it was used, people use with, songs heard, and movies watched while on a ‘high,’ and anything else associated with the use of marijuana and its chemical reaction to the brain that compels the person to match that associations with hopes of achieving the same ‘high,’ all over again. Without a doubt, marijuana addiction is indeed a true and factual occurrence among users.

However, there is a chance for those who are marijuana users. There are treatment choices one can opt for like outpatient, residential, day and night programs, and more on a more basic level. Once you have decided upon yourself that you will change, you will surely make marijuana treatment easy for you and your loved ones.
